LASTEST: House Committee Seeks More Answers as Probe of ₦400m Budget Allocation Continues

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee has sustained its investigation into the ₦400m budget provision for the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, with the Budget Office defending the expenditure during a public hearing before lawmakers

Committee members questioned officials on the necessity of the allocation and requested comprehensive documentation to establish that the funds were appropriated in accordance with existing financial laws and the provisions of the Appropriation Act. Lawmakers reiterated that legislative oversight is essential to ensuring prudent management of public resources and preventing misuse of government funds.

Officials of the Budget Office told the committee that the allocation followed the normal budget preparation process and received the necessary approvals before being included in the national budget. They pledged full cooperation with the investigation and assured lawmakers that all relevant records would be made available for scrutiny.

The committee noted that the investigation remains ongoing and that its findings will be based solely on evidence presented before the panel. It added that more government agencies and relevant stakeholders may be invited to provide further clarification as the probe progresses, with the ultimate goal of promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria's public finance system.
